Why it mattered

Catching silent killers before they strike

In rural India, diabetes, hypertension, anemia, chronic kidney disease and malnutrition often go undetected until they become serious. Many villagers have never had a basic blood test.

Adopt-A-Village brought free screening camps directly to underserved communities, so problems could be found early — and every person with an abnormal result had a path to follow-up care.

How it worked

From one donor to a whole village

  1. 1

    A member adopts a village

An AAPI physician sponsored a village — often in their home state — and a local village champion helped organize the camp.

  2. 2

    A one-day health camp

Each camp screened up to 150 villagers on 13 health parameters.

  3. 3

    Results in 24 hours

Every participant received their results within a day.

  4. 4

    Follow-up care

Abnormal findings got a telemedicine consultation and a referral to local providers.

Health checks at every camp

  • Hemoglobin / CBC
  • Blood sugar
  • HbA1c
  • Lipid profile
  • Creatinine
  • Pulse oximetry
  • Blood pressure
  • Pulse
  • Height, weight & BMI

Camps also provided free multivitamins, basic medicines as needed, and healthy snacks to encourage better nutrition.

Implementation partner

Global Teleclinics (GTC)

Camps were delivered under a formal agreement with Global Teleclinics, which ran on-the-ground screenings and telemedicine follow-up across all participating states.

The work continues

Adopt-A-Village has concluded, but AAPI physicians are serving communities through new initiatives every year.
