Welcoming remarks by Dr. Sunita Kanumury, MD - AAPI President

& Dr. VijayaLakshmi Appareddy - AAPI Chairwoman, Legislative Committee

 

10:30 am

Remarks by Cindy Brown - Vice President of Government Affairs, American Medical Association (AMA) - Cindy will be speaking to AAPI about medical liability reform legislation pending before Congress along with an update on the Medicare SGR

 

11:00 am

Remarks by Leonard “Len” Marquez - Director, Government Relations, Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) - Len will be speaking about legislation pending before Congress that would increase residency positions along with the Medicare SGR

 

11:30 am

Remarks by Dr. John O’Shea - Senior Policy Advisor to the Chairman, House Energy and Commerce Committee - Dr. O’Shea will provide a health care update on the Medicare SGR and the status of cuts to the health care sector that are pending before the deficit reduction committee

 

12:00 p.m.

Remarks by Ambassador Arun K. Singh - Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India - Ambassador Singh previously served as India’s Ambassador to Israel

 

Keynote presentations - Attorneys Rahul Ranadive and Parag Patel are traveling from Miami, Fla. and New York City respectively to provide an exclusive update to AAPI and the Indian American community in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area on the 2011 Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Initative (OVDI). This IRS program requires Indian Americans to disclose bank accounts and other holdings in India to the IRS. Rahul and Parag will discuss the program’s requirements and the recent controversy surrounding it in detail during lunch.

 

1:30 p.m.

Legislative training - Dino Teppara, AAPI’s director of legislative affairs, will provide a training session to the attendees, hand out AAPI talking points and discuss the afternoon’s lobbying day.

 

2:30 p.m.

Afternoon lobbying day where AAPI members will meet with congressional offices to discuss our legislative agenda and the importance of passing it to the medical community.

 

5:30 p.m.

AAPI members will depart Capitol Hill for the Embassy of India

 

6:00 p.m.
